DataMax® 5e Screened Patch Cables Meet Category 5e Requirements

August 30, 2001     --- Quabbin Wire & Cable Co., Inc. announces DataMax Screened Twisted Pair (ScTP) patch cable that meets all requirements of TIA/EIA 568-B.2 for ScTP enhanced Category 5e. This new product family is RoHS compliant and also complies with applicable European ISO 11801 and EN 50173 Class D requirements.

Category 5e ScTP (Shielded) stranded patch cable is available in various colors

When terminated with Category 5e shielded (screened) modular plugs, the resultant cords fully comply with TIA/EIA 568B Category 5e cordage Return Loss and Crosstalk requirements. Since shielded horizontal cables that comply with 5e are readily available, it is now possible to design and build a fully compliant end-to-end Category 5e shielded network. Although unshielded (UTP) networks dominate the market in North America, screened or shielded LAN applications are a growing market segment. Shielded LANs are often used whenever there are security issues or EMI considerations such as within electrically noisy factory or some hospital applications.

These ScTP cables are constructed with 26 AWG stranded copper, insulated with low-loss foamed dielectric, and shielded with an overall aluminum/polyester tape and stranded tinned copper drain wire. The twisted pairs have a stable 100 Ohm nominal impedance and a low 13.5 pf/ft mutual capacitance. The outer jacket is flame retardant PVC. The cables are dimensionally consistent for efficient mass termination and have a CM fire rating for both the NEC and CEC. Quabbin's DataMax 5e ScTP patch cables are stocked in the most common jacket colors (Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Gray, White, Beige).
